Why do I get syntax errors while using MIB files with SNMP command line applications like ?snmptranslate? ?

Using certain SNMP command line applications (including ?snmptranslate? ?snmpwalk? etc.) with MIB files that contain underscores/underlines may cause errors on some machines.

To prevent such errors:

  • Enable support for underscores/underlines in MIB files by adding:

      ' mibAllowUnderline 1 ?

to the snmp configuration file, ~/.snmp/snmp.conf file, or

  • Remove the underscores/underlines in the MIB file.
