E-SEMS-16: How do I recover the root password?
Author: Administrator, Created on: Oct 28, 2010 3:28 PM

How do I access/recover the root password of an E-SEMS-x?

Steps to Access the Root Password of an E-SEMS-x Unit:

1. Connect a serial cable between a PC and the console port of the E-SEMS-x Unit. Have a Hyperterminal (or other serial com application) open and set to current serial settings of the E-SEMS-x Unit (default is 9600). To test the connection, hit "enter" and a message requesting a password should be seen on the Hyperterminal (just as a test).

2. Use the Discover tool to detect the E-SEMS-x in the network. This requires that the PC where the Discover tool is ran and the E-SEMS-x are on the same physical network. (A cross-over CAT5 cable between PC and the E-SEMS-x will also work.)

3. In the Discover tool window type 1.2.3.4 in all three fields (IP Address, Default Gateway and Subnet Mask) and press Apply. This will cause the E-SEMS-x unit to print the current root password on the serial console (HyperTerminal) between two vertical bars (like |admin|). The IP settings will remain the same, and not change to 1.2.3.4.
